**UPDATE**
Thank you to WarholFoundation and HelenFrankenthalerFoundation for providing crucial support for our arts residency on the Hopi Reservation. This initiative had initially been selected to receive funding through the now suspended NEA Challenge America grant initiative.
Compassionate Heart Productions is pleased to announce it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Challenge America Award of $10,000. This grant will support an arts residency on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. Ocean City Pops’ flutist Pamela Whitman will collaborate with Dakota (Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate) flutist Bryan Akipa in performing in all Hopi tribal schools. The duo will also give an outdoor public performance on Second Mesa. The concerts will feature music inspired by the Earth.
The NEA will award 272 Challenge America awards nationwide totaling $2,720,000 as part of the recent announcement of fiscal year 2025 grants.
“The NEA is proud to continue our nearly 60 years of supporting the efforts of organizations and artists that help to shape our country’s vibrant arts sector and communities of all types across our nation,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “It is inspiring to see the wide range of creative projects taking place, including Compassionate Heart Productions’ Arts Residency on the Hopi Reservation.”
“We are excited to work with our Hopi partners in arranging this arts residency and are grateful for the opportunity that is being made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts,” Pamela Whitman (Founder, Flutist of Compassionate Heart Productions).
